Side Mount: Bettering your position

Starting in the motion side mount (bottom hand on mat by the near side hip, and top hand on the opposite side of your opp's head...elbow down)

1. Drop your hip (as if you are sitting out towards your opp's feet)

2. As you reverse the sit out to get back to regular motion side mount... your top knee clears your opps arm up and traps it between your thigh, ribs and hip. This immobolizes your opps arm so he can not escape as easily or defend submissions...this is the tightest side mount!

You can now take your top hand and move it to the other side of the head which is more a "holding" position
OR
You can keep your top arm where it is and work for locks, this is more of an agressive position
