Drills: Loose Guard Passes

Loose passes are passes done by basically going around your opp rather than over him. You can do all these passes using a chair as your opponent....

1. Start standing square in front of your opponent with your hands on his knees. If you are passing to the left you step with the right leg first. Your right leg steps to his opposite hip placing your shin into this thigh, then your left leg steps out wide for balance. Then you go back and square up by stepping back the exact opposite. Your left foot steps back first followed by your right. Then you go the other way (right) You step left right, right left. You can continue to work this back and fourth left and right or you could just mix it up sporadically.

2. The next pass is basically a slide. Again you hands are on your opp's knees. If you are passing left you push off your right leg and step your body completely perdendicular to your opp. Avoid "hopping" you are NOT jumping to the side you just want to slide to his side. Your hands are on his knees so you can push his knees AWAY from you as you pass. In a real situation you would immediately drop down to cross side. Again you can drill this by going left and right back and fourth or you can mix it up.

3. The last drill resembles a football stance. You want to keep one hand on the knee and other on the floor between his legs. You are basically in a 3 point stance. If your Left hand is on his right knee and your right hand is on the floor you are going to pass the left (the same side that you are holding his knee) and you pass the same way as the drill above....you slide to that side.
This drill is a lil slower bc you have switch your hands each time before you change direction.
