When doing a "low pass" you are controlling his legs and hips as opposed to his shoulders and chin. You are starting standing square in front of your opp holding onto this shins (a few inches above the ankles) pushing his knees inward. If he extends his feet you don't have to worry about going thru all these steps just throw his legs to the side and pass. So normally he is keep his knees towards his chest.
If you are passing left....
1. Drop your right knee down across your opp's foot facing the direction you are passing (left)
2. Step out wide over your opp's right leg and immediately drop your knee tight to his hip trapping his leg....this will put you in half guard.
3. As you pass your right hand lets go of his shin and you drop your forearm to mat keeping his arm tight to his body (elbow right by his hip) with the gi you can hold his belt. Your left arm stays tucked under leg and slides from his shin to under his hamstring.
Again since we are going to pass LOW you want to scoot down and get the tip of your shoulder the AC joint right in his center of gravity- which is about an inch below his belly button. Most people stay too high make sure your shoudler is low!
4. Now slide your right arm under his other leg holding his hamstring. So you are now reaching under both his legs holding both his hamstrings with your shoulder driving down into him as hard as possible...make it hurt!
5. To open his leg you are going to rip his legs apart - Pull both your arms back as if you are doing reverse fly's with dumb bells. As you sprwal back hard and fast!
6. Now while keeping your shoulder down, turn your hip slighty towards his feet and get your left knee under his right leg.....then switch and get your right knee under his leg....then slowly crawl up to side mount.
