Transitioning to the DLR guard is a little different without the gi. When you know your opp is going to stand up and try to break your guard open you want to open your guard first. As your opp steps up his right leg....
1. Grab his heel with your adjacent hand (left hand) and your right hand grabs his right (opposite) wrist with your thumb down
2. As he stands up....put your right foot on your opp's thigh and push him away. Your left leg hooks around your opp's right leg from the outside and you turn your body perdendicular to your opp.
This is the basic DLR guard without the gi....

De La Riva Guard
1. When your opp is in your guard get double wrist control by grabbing his gi
2. As he stands, before he opens your guard, unlock your own legs
3. Put your right foot on his hip and push his hip away
4. Swing your body the opposite way on the 90 degree angle (Your head towards his right
foot)
5. Wrap your left leg around his thigh from the outside and lock your toes in
Now you have double wrist control, your left leg is wrapped around his right leg and your right foot is pushing his hip away. This is the basic De La Riva Guard.
