Half Guard: Back and Fourth Sweep

This sweep is designed so you can get the sweep from half guard either one way or another depending on your opp's reaction! The first step of instructions are for the first sweep then if he bases out, you can roll him back the other way....Some of the steps to the first sweep which don't seem necessary will help you get the 2nd sweep!

From Half Guard (for this example) lets say your right leg is trapped and your left leg is free and your opp has the underhook and is giving you shoulder pressure...

1. Hip out to the left side (onto your right hip) and get your left foot inside your opp's knee (butterfuly position)

2. As you do that, you want to start feeding his right collar to your left hand (you are grabbing his near side collar - This is basically locking in a wizzer bc you can not get the underhook and it will help you get the 2nd sweep)

3. Reach your right hand up and trap his left arm. His left arm is going under your head so all you have to do is hold is there so he doesn't base out. You can either grab your ear or hold his elbow.

4. Push off your right ball of foot (the leg that was trapped) and bridge and roll to your right as you lift up with your left arm and left foot (like a butterfly sweep)

You should get the sweep here but if he is able to post his hand out or balance himself from falling over, you are immediately going to transition to this sweep....

1. Let go of his left arm (the one that he posted) with your right hand and block his knee....this will allow you to free your trapped leg and get back to full butterfly guard. From here you COULD just go back to full guard but we are looking to sweep and now is a perfect oppurtunity to roll him back the other way....especially bc you have his right arm trapped bc you are holding his collar, making the wizzer tight...

2. Once you have the right foot inside (butterfly) bridge and roll to your left side lifting his leg with your right foot while you drive off your left ball of foot.

**It is key to not break momentum while going from the 1st sweep the the 2nd. The sweep's power is coming from your hips. You are bridging to your right then you roll back hard to your left while lifting his leg up. This sweep works perfectly!! You should be able to even gain full mount or side mount...but worst case scenario you end up in half guard.
