Side Mount: Transitions

If you have side mount with your top hand on the opposite side of your opp's head and your bottom hand checking his hip....as he rolls towards you (which he will be able to do bc you are not giving him any shoulder pressure and there is nothing stopping you from turning towards you) there are a couple of ways to transition to either keep, or better your position.

As he first starts to turn into you....

- You can switch you top arm to the other side of his head, get your bicep across his neck and flatten him back out

If he turns into you even more.....

- You can switch your top arm to the other side of his body but rather than reaching around his neck you can grab under his tricep (of his bottom arm) and drive him back onto his back. It will also help if you lower your body and get your head onto his waist to help drive him onto his back.

If your opp rolls into your and is almost completely on his side...you are not going to be able to stop him from getting to his knees (when you are on the bottom in side mount and you roll into your opp, as soon as you get your TOP shoulder facing downward it is impossible for him to flattne you out) So if your opp does this you have to give up on trying to flatten him out.
Your top arm is going to stay on the far side of his body and it is reach under his under his arm pit and grab your opps bottom tricep/elbow as you simultaneously switch your hips and high leg over to your opp's back. **It is important to keep your weight down as you do this. So keep pressure down with your chest as you reach for his tricep and high leg over.

Once you are behind him...clasp your hands around his neck (head and arm control) and fold your top leg behind his back. Now all you have to do is roll away from him, pulling him on top of you, and you can get your hooks in to take his back.
